** WE HAVE RESTARTED OUR OPEN CATHEDRALS AND WE NEED YOUR HELP **
Night Ministry sponsors two outdoor, ecumenical Christian worship services called Open Cathedral:
Open Cathedral - Mission: every Thursday 5:30 PM at 16th & Mission BART station
Open Cathedral - Civic Center: every Sunday at 2 PM in UN Plaza (Leavenworth at McAllister).
Following the service, volunteer groups provide a meal to 75-125 people, many of whom are homeless or living on fixed incomes. The meal typically consists of one kind of sandwich (multiple options makes for more complicated serving), drinks and a snack such as soft fruit, hard boiled eggs, chips or cookies. This is a great opportunity for youth groups!
We serve meals to all people in the area regardless of whether they participated in the religious service. We do not judge or proselytize. Night Ministry is non-sectarian and multi-faith. Our mission is to increase access to spiritual care and spiritual community.
Currently, all meals are "to-do" brown bag lunches in compliance with pandemic protocols. We need volunteers to help prepare these lunches. We can be flexible: For example, one person or group could prepare all 90-100 lunches; or 3 individuals could prepare different lunches on the own for about 30 people each. We arrange for pick-up or drop-off at the Open Cathedrals locations. Volunteers need not leave their vehicles.
Our Covid-19 policy is on our website (www.sfnightministry.org).
Thanks for your loving support!
