Drivers are needed to deliver food to families in need in the city of Rochester and surrounding suburbs. The People's Pantry (formerly South Wedge Food Program) delivers about 2000 boxes of food to low-income households each month. This allows people without safe transportation, people who are immunocompromised, and people who are disabled to get the nutrition they need without having to leave their homes. If you have a working vehicle, and can lift a box of food weighing about 40lbs, then we have an opportunity for you! Drivers usually take 4 or 5 addresses within the same zip code. You can deliver one run (less than one hour's commitment) and head home, or you can come back to load your car and deliver to another neighborhood (making the shift about three hours long). Deliveries are rarely more than ten miles from the pantry (555 Avenue D) and are done between 9am and noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. You may choose areas of the city you are comfortable in. Everyone practices social distancing and wears a mask and we ask that you put the box on the client's doorstep and back up ten feet to reduce the spread of germs. You'll need your cell phone in case you can't find a client's address. Gas is not reimbursed.

Mission Statement

The People's Pantry offers free groceries to people in need in Rochester, NY. We provide food with respect and dignity and help clients find other sources of help in and around the Rochester area.

Description

Since the 1970's the The People's Pantry (formerly the South Wedge Food Program) has been providing nutrition to anyone in need. Currently, we feed between 600 and 800 families each month. We provide each family with a variety of food ranging from shelf stable items to fresh produce, and frozen meats to sweets. During the pandemic we adapted a pre-packed bag model, supplemented by fresh, frozen and refrigerated items that our clients can choose from a variety of those available.
