For this at-home project Recovery Program Solutions of Virginia (RPSV) invites volunteers to write messages of encouragement to community members who are suffering with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. Through virtual postcards, short videos, poems or short stories -- whatever inspires you can be used to remind RPSV clients struggling with mental health, addiction, and homelessness issues that they are not alone. As a peer-run organization, our participants heal when they know they are not the only ones feeling as they do. Today, 1/3 Americans suffer from clinical depression or anxiety. For those with these pre-existing conditions, the COVID-19 pandemic is compounding the stress. Your support counts! Mission Statement
Volunteer Fairfax is a private nonprofit organization founded in 1975. For the past 45 years, our mission has been to create a better community through service, to mobilize people and resources to benefit the community and to connect individuals, youth, groups and corporations to volunteer opportunities.
Description
As the regional volunteer center for the National Capital region, Volunteer Fairfax serves the community in a wide variety of ways.
We provide Information and Referral services to community residents interested in volunteering through VolunteerNow. Individuals may also become engaged though a variety of service programs the Center offers including Volunteers for Change, which provides evening and weekend volunteer projects for busy adults; RSVP, a service program that invites people who are 55+ to engage in their community; and, Volunteer Emergency Management Team, a group of volunteers specially trained and prepared to help the community in the event of a disaster. Additionally, for those seeking opportunities to serve court-appointed hours, we have established the Alternative Community Service Program.
Volunteer Fairfax regularly hosts special events and invites youth and families to volunteer together. These volunteer special events include VolunteerFest in October and Give Together in January on the Martin Luther King Day of Service.
Volunteer Fairfax supports both nonprofits and for-profit organizations. To learn more about our services check out our website, www.volunteerfairfax.org.
