Ace of Hearts Dog Rescue is always in need of Standby Volunteers who can be on-call in case we have a last minute transportation need. It could be anything from taking a dog to the vet, to a new foster, getting medication or supplies to a dog or most importantly, being a dog's hero by giving her/him a "freedom ride" from a shelter where they may be euthanized.
If you can't be on-call for a full day, even a few hours helps a lot. We like to have a list of Standby Volunteers scheduled 2 weeks out. Do you have any time in the next 2 weeks that we could add you to this list? If you do, please let us know the days and time windows.
We also need people to help give dogs freedom rides! We are constantly pulling dogs from shelters, but in order to do so we need someone to go and pick them up and give them their freedom rides! The location of the shelter varies but all dogs get dropped of at our office in the Pacific Palisades before going home with fosters.
Volunteers who are interested in helping give our dogs freedom rides should have a reliable decent size car that can fit the dog and a hard shell crate if required by the shelter. We also ask that you have a leash and collar to keep hold of the dog in case the shelter does not provide one.

We are a 501c-3 dog rescue foundation dedicated to rescuing dogs, the day they are to be euthanized, from various Los Angeles shelters and placing them in loving homes. We do NOT take dogs in ... we rescue only from shelters. The Ace of Hearts Foundation is in memory of "Ace", a wonderful American Bull dog who was rescued from death, and touched the lives of many! (Especially founder Kari Whitman!) We rescue all breeds...and don't discriminate against any!

We need Standby Volunteers daily!
Emergency Volunteers/Stand By's
This may seem like the least helpful, but actually our stand-by's always save us & the dogs! We need you!
You give us the days and times you are available and we add you to a list. Then, if something comes up that day- you will be the first one we call. This helps us reach out to volunteers with availability that day instead of calling our entire volunteer list. If there is a day, half a day, or even a few hours you can volunteer to be placed on a "call in case of an emergency" list, let us know! This can be for many different tasks, and almost
always requires some driving. We try very hard to plan things in advance, but if there is a last minute opportunity to save a life, get a dog adopted, or a foster emergency, it helps to have a handful of people we reach out to first!
We are in desperate need of standby volunteers!
