Victory Lap 5K Event Mission:

To increase the representation of minorities and individuals from low income families towards the development of and participation in engineering and technology based businesses and careers.

About Victory Lap 5K:

Black and Hispanic Americans, and people from other marginalized groups are twice as likely to be adversely impacted by the disruption of automation technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous devices, and the Internet of Things as counterparts of other races and cultures. Over 50% of all service based jobs are occupied by African Americans and, though they only comprise 13% of the population in the United States. This disparity presents a mounting concern in an already wide gap in income, wealth, and economic opportunity.

Be Great Foundation Inc. was created to address such economic and opportunity disparities by advocating for STEM education, entrepreneurship and equity for underrepresented and marginalized populations. Inspired by Nipsey Hussle, the purpose of the Victory Lap 5K is to raise funding to support students and entrepreneurs in our local community towards the progression and development of STEM careers in an effort to prepare individuals from underrepresented populations to secure the jobs of the future. Due to Covid-19, our original event has been postponed to the Spring of 2021. However, we will open up virtual run registration and participation on October 10th, and people will be able to register and run on a time and date of their choosing up until the date of the event.

Event Objectives:

Our event is a fundraiser, and we seek to achieve the following objectives through sponsorships and event proceeds.
  1. Raise funds to send (25) children from marginalized communities to virtual STEM camp to learn skills like coding, 3D Printing, Digital Animation, Game Development and more.
  2. Send (2) individuals ages 18-25 to Virtual Bootcamps to obtain certifications in high demand skills such as User Experience Design and Software Engineering. The targeted Bootcamps have guaranteed job placement and will allow graduates to obtain high demand employment opportunities upon requiring certification - while being debt free.
  3. Provide seed grant funding to (2) local entrepreneurs/tech founders from marginalized backgrounds to start or grown their technology based venture
