Friends Connect Foundation’s mission is to provide social opportunities designed for individuals with special needs. Being a member of the Friends Connect Foundation Board of Directors provides you with a unique opportunity to:

  • Contribute to the success of the organization
  • Make a positive impact on the lives of special needs teenagers in local communities
  • Serve your community
  • Expand your network and meet people with similar interests
About the Position:
  • Regular board meetings are held quarterly in January, April, July and October of each year.
  • Each meeting is approximately one to two hours in duration.
  • Board members participate in strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising and community outreach.
  • Board members may elect to assist with various projects. Most projects are related to fundraising or recruiting donors, volunteers or special needs participants.
  • Board members must make a personal donation each year in an amount that is meaningful to the board member.

Requirements:
  • Passionate about our cause
  • Has experience or skills in an area that can benefit the organization such as finance, management, HR, education, medical, risk management, legal, PR, fundraising, etc.
  • **No prior board experience necessary!**
Friends Connect Foundation is a dynamic organization and needs the support and input of people with professional experience and insight. The main purpose of the Friends Connect Foundation Board of Directors is to strategically plan the future of the organization, to address concerns related to the organization and to promote fundraising and community awareness initiatives. A diverse Board of Directors ensures that the organization has sound governance, effective financial management, adequate resources and that Friends Connect Foundation’s mission can be achieved.

Our mission is to provide social opportunities designed for individuals with special needs. Our age-appropriate programs assist participants in forming new friendships, improving their self-esteem and increasing their sense of belonging in the community.

Description

Friends Connect Foundation helps teenagers with special needs build self-esteem, new friendships and an improved sense of belonging through free fitness, self-expression, music and social activities such as mini golfing, holiday parties, dance lessons, reading with bunnies, art, drum circle, gardening, cooking, field days, fitness, games and more. At each event, volunteer "buddies" are paired with a special needs participant to be their host, guide and friend while helping them engage in modifiable activities. We primarily serve residents of Monmouth County ages 12 through 21 years old and host events all year long.
