The Clean Team is a group of dedicated volunteers who help keep Washington Square Park clean with a regular commitment to litter pick-up. Following a required orientation, volunteers will be outfitted with the tools needed to pick up stray litter at the Park. Volunteers work independently or we can match you with a pick-up partner.

The program takes place when NYC Parks staff are present: 7am-6pm, 7 days a week and you can volunteer anytime within this time frame. We recommend a shift of 45 minutes once a week. While there is flexibility in scheduling and total hours served, we do ask for a six-month commitment.

Description

Washington Square Park is beloved open space in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City. Spanning 9.75 acres, this iconic Park with its signature arch designed by Stanford White and dramatic central fountain is one of Manhattan’s most popular landmarks. The Park serves many functions for a diverse usership, acting as critical green space, a village square, playground, concert hall, reading room, gym, campus quad, theater, and more. And it’s busy! The Park hosts 12 million visits a year, making Washington Square the busiest Park per square foot in all of NYC. You can make a difference by lending a hand at our monthly clean-ups, bringing your corporate team for a morning of giving back, or commit to a longer volunteer experience through our Wednesday Weeder, Greeter/Guide, and Photography volunteer programs.
