Volunteering Against COVID-19

Helpful Engineering is seeking a Controller to join the Finance Team to

help fight COVID-19.

This is an unpaid volunteer position working with amazing worldwide team

members in a dynamic fast-moving environment. It is also a great opportunity to

build your skills and resume.

About Helpful Engineering

Helpful Engineering is an international, open-source community incubator focused

on mobilizing people to help solve the Covid-19 pandemic and other critical issues.

With thousands of volunteers worldwide, we support projects through innovations in

engineering, community resources, software, and manufacturing. Most of the

projects are focused on finding solutions to fix the lack of products used by

healthcare professionals, including hardware and software, but also non-technical

products like surgical masks.

We have engineers and doctors all around the world who are producing ventilators,

protective equipment, websites, and systems to organize volunteers to assist their

communities and medical workers. They are making heroic efforts to produce

products in time to help the outbreak.

Controller Position

Responsibilities

• Handling incoming donations
• Fund accounting-creating and managing funds adhering to the set budget,
• donor requirements, and US accounting standards & regulations
• Helping with preparation of annual regulatory filings
• Transaction reconciliation in Xero-making sure bank statements and the
• ledger are synced and up-to-date
• Creation & record-keeping of financial statements in Xero

Position Requirements

• Experience working with finance in a non-profit or charitable organization
• Experience using Xero and similar accounting tools
• Knowledge of non-profit regulations in the US
• Understanding of good fund accounting practices
• Hourly commitment of 20 per week

This role requires remote-working. Applicants must have regular and reliable

access to the internet, as well as the motivation to dedicate their time to the

organization.
