CommUnify of Santa Barbara County (formerly Community Action Commission) has been providing much-needed services to seniors throughout Santa Barbara County since 1964. The COVID crisis has negatively impacted all local nonprofits in a variety of ways, and CommUnify’s Senior Nutrition Program is no exception. The program has experienced an almost 115%increase in clients since the COVID pandemic began in mid-March. Last year CommUnify served about 155,000 meals to roughly 1200 seniors in need countywide. In addition to funding needs through sponsorship and donations, CommUnify is in desperate need of volunteers to help us deliver meals, host food distribution sites, and provide office support to care for these vulnerable members of our community. CommUnify volunteers safely pick-up and deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors and provide social interaction with them, each morning Monday-Friday. Pick-up meals at kitchen site and load into volunteer’s vehicle adhering to all food safety standards. Ensure food is received and temperatures are recorded. Deliver meals on assigned route (1-2 hours per shift) to senior homes and perform informal wellness check/check-in with clients. Complete delivery log and return to supervisor at conclusion of shift. Volunteers looking for a rewarding and fun experience, please contact Joni Kelly, the Volunteer Coordinator at jkelly@CommUnifySB.org.

CommUnify is a nonprofit organization working in partnership with the community to find innovative and sustainable solutions for Santa Barbara County residents to improve and maintain their health, resilience and financial security.
