The family will work with the mentor to develop and carry out an action plan meet their individual and family goals. Using their plans as a guide, families will participate in program activities and take advantage of opportunities created to help them achieve their specific goals.

Mission Statement

Families to College cultivates family bonds and improves academic and employment success in Cumberland County through a comprehensive whole-family mentoring program. Due to the pandemic all events & volunteering opportunities will be online.

Description

Each family will be connected with a mentor who is a professional in the community. The family will work with the mentor to develop and carry out an action plan to meet their individual and family goals. Using their plans as a guide, families will participate in program activities and take advantage of opportunities created to help them achieve their specific goals.

Mentor Requirements:

  • Have a college degree. (Associates, Bachelors, Masters, PhD,etc.)
  • Have an authentic interest in engaging with Cumberland County families and helping them to achieve their goals.
  • Are trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Are sensitive to cultural differences and the needs of individual families.
  • Are patient, empathetic, and ready to listen and respond to families without judgement.

  • - Work with Families to College staff to engage and build authentic relationships with families. - Touch base with families at least twice per month. - Help keep families on track to achieve goals laid out in their individual Family Goal Plan.
