This is a weekly onsite commitment on Fridays, 2:15-4:15 pm, January through March. Volunteers will bag groceries from 2:15-3:15, and distribute groceries to families in the Clover Basin community from 3:15-4:15. This walk-up grocery distribution will help feed 70-100 Longmont families each week, and is a continuation of our COVID-19 response for community hunger relief. Volunteers are expected to wear masks throughout their shifts; gloves and sanitizer will be provided onsite.
Bilingual Spanish skills are a huge asset for this shift!
Thanks to grant funding for this food distribution program, we are able to offer a small stipend in thanks for the weekly commitment.

About LONGMONT FOOD RESCUE
Location:
PO BOX 1127, LYONS, CO 80540, US
Mission Statement
Longmont Food Rescue’s mission is to redistribute nutritious food that retailers have deemed food 'waste’ to feed hungry, homeless, and low-income populations directly. Our cores values are: Reduction of hunger; Being an ally for food justice throughout Longmont, CO and surrounding areas; Just-in-time, collaborative food redistribution; Reducing carbon footprint and landfill waste.
Description
Through partnerships with local and state governments, businesses, charities, and other organizations that share our core values, our work is to close the gap in food insecurity in Longmont and surrounding mountains towns, while simultaneously reducing landfill waste. We envision a just food system built on the conscientious collaboration of community members who are committed to a sustainable system of food practices.
Longmont Food Rescue rescues fruits and vegetables from local grocery stores, farms, and farmers markets. In addition to vehicle transportation, we use human power transportation, ie: bicycles. LFR’s just-in-time food rescue services allows us to be more agile than larger food banks, which enables us to deliver to our recipients faster. And because of the reduced turn-around time between donation and delivery, more food can be redirected and consumed within hours of donation that would otherwise be thrown away.
