Since 2015, AARP Foundation’s annual Celebration of Service has put a spotlight on senior poverty by engaging thousands of volunteers on Washington D.C.’s National Mall to pack millions of meals for food insecure older adults. This year, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and rising food insecurity rates mean vulnerable seniors need our support more than ever.

We’ll continue the spirit of service in 2020 through our Meal Pack Challenge, which will safely engage volunteers to contribute 25,000 boxes - over 2 million servings of food -- to the Capital Area Food Bank, which serves the Greater Washington D.C. metro area. Through this initiative, volunteers will give their time by preparing and shipping boxes of non-perishable food from the comfort and safety of their own home.
