ORGANIZATION: GROUNDWORK RANCH

  • 23 people are interested

Ranch Hands are essential to Groundwork Ranch's ability to serve people experiencing difficult challenges in their lives. Ranch Hands provide care to our small herd of therapy horses once per week. Care includes feeding, watering, cleaning the horse living area, checking on horse health, and other tasks to ensure the health and safety of the herd.

Volunteers receive education about horse behavior and equine-assisted learning and therapy services and comprehensive training on horse handling and minor medical care in exchange for at least a 6-month commitment. Groundwork Ranch appreciates our Ranch Hand volunteers through monthly appreciation events, opportunities for further involvement with the horses and the organization, fun social gatherings (once they are allowed again), and group activities to support other local nonprofits (such as a Walk with the Horses team for the Alzheimer's Association Walk for the Cure).

Mission Statement

We are inspired by the possibility of a world where all people have the understanding and skills to fully embrace their personal power...to create the lives they want, to tackle challenges with confidence and curiosity, to nurture truly healthy relationships with others, and to engage in their communities in ways that are personally meaningful.

Description

Groundwork Ranch partners with community organizations to provide a variety of equine-assisted learning programs to people facing tough challenges in their lives. Our experiential therapeutic group programs are facilitated by licensed mental health and trauma professionals and combine the latest research in brain science with the concepts of equine ethology to create powerful, engaging learning and growth opportunities that demonstrate measurable improvements in people’s lives. By collaborating with other local health and human service organizations and through the generosity of our volunteers and donors, Groundwork Ranch is able to offer our programs at no cost to participants.

Programs include Taking the Reins, support and learning for family care partners of people with dementia; Leader of the Herd, training for foster parents caring for traumatized children and teens; and Horse Power, social and emotional learning for middle- and high-school student from difficult places, among others.
