Shelter Help Needed (Deployment Opportunity)

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross of Nebraska-Iowa Region

Experts were predicting an above average season both for hurricanes and wildfires, and those predictions are here now, we are facing them head on. In the midst of the corona virus pandemic, the American Red Cross will experience challenges to deploy trained disaster volunteers from other parts of the country should an emergency occur. In light of this, the Red Cross is asking you to be ready to help your community.

There is a special need for volunteers to support sheltering efforts. Because of COVID-19, the Red Cross is placing those needing a safe place to stay in emergency hotel lodging when possible. If hotel stays aren’t possible, then the Red Cross will open traditional shelters and follow social distancing protocols. To help keep people safe, we have put in place additional precautions and developed special training for our workforce.

We need volunteers to help staff shelter reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information collection and other vital tasks to help those we serve. We have both associate and supervisory level opportunities available.

The need right now is for volunteers to raise their hand to express a willingness to volunteer in a shelter and review online training to prepare them for their service. Get prepared now to help individuals in disasters. Both associate and supervisory level volunteer opportunities are available

Train now to be a Red Cross volunteer and answer the call to help if the need arises here in our region. To learn more, visit: www.redcross.org/volunteertoday or apply through this post

Mission Statement

Mission Statement: The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Vision Statement The American Red Cross, through its strong network of volunteers, donors and partners, is always there in times of need. We aspire to turn compassion into action so that... ...all people affected by disaster across the country and around the world receive care, shelter and hope; ...our communities are ready and prepared for disasters; ...everyone in our country has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; ...all members of our armed services and their families find support and comfort whenever needed; and ...in an emergency, there are always trained individuals nearby, ready to use their Red Cross skills to save lives.

Description

Since our founding by Clara Barton on May 21, 1881, the American Red Cross has been dedicated to serving people in need. We received our first congressional charter in 1900 and to this day we are tasked by the federal government with providing services to members of the American armed forces and their families as well as providing disaster relief in the United States and around the world.

Today, as throughout our long history, the Red Cross depends on generous contributions of time, blood, and money from the American public to support our lifesaving services and programs.
