STREET Smarts is an after-school program that pairs volunteers with elementary students to review basics in literacy. The program runs, virtually, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm.

Expectations: Minimum of 1 hours weekly commitment

Requirements:

  • Complete a volunteer application

  • Provide references

  • Pass a background check

Only once a student learns to read can they read to learn. Become a volunteer, one afternoon a week can make a lifetime of a difference.

Description

STREETS is an urban ministry that serves nearly 400 under-resourced youth every day in the Downtown and in the Graham Heights Communities. The organization exists to engage, encourage, and equip underserved youth by supporting the whole child, including a student's physical, mental, and emotional health. This is primarily achieved through after-school programming, which provides students safety, recreation, tutoring, biblical teachings, and a range of extra-curricular activities. While faith is an optional program component, children of all backgrounds are welcome and participate in STREETS programs. While STREETS is a faith-based organization, all faith-centered activities are optional, and students of all faiths are welcome. Our facilities and staff make STREETS a safe-haven, a place to hang out, meet a friend, and be welcomed with the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
