By volunteering as a Tutor and/or Mentor at Unlocking Futures, you have the power to help open the door of possibilities at a critical point in young girls’ lives.
At Unlocking Futures, our goal is to aid in breaking generational cycles of poverty and ensure the educational success of all students. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on students, it is especially important this year to provide additional resources and mentorship to students in under-resourced school systems.
Since March 2020, we have transitioned our tutoring and mentoring programs to be completely online, using Zoom. As a tutor, you will be working with 8th and 9th-grade girls of color in New York City and the surrounding areas. We ask our volunteers to provide academic assistance and a nurturing context in which the girls are better able to successfully transition into high school.
Volunteer tutors will hold 45-90 minute tutoring sessions (one-to-one or group as needed) over Zoom every week, in which you will work together to complete the students’ homework and/or study for upcoming tests.
