ORGANIZATION: Boys & Girls Club of Vista

The Boys and Girls Club of Vista is seeking a volunteer who has a passion for poetry and is excited to share their knowledge with our club member. Our hope is that you can introduce our club members to different types of poetry and ignite a passion within them. Volunteers will be expected to conduct tutorials in poetry appreciation as well as broach discussion. Please e-mail sierra@bgcvista.com if you feel you are the right fit!

Description

Established in 1963, BGCV meets the needs of youth ages 5-18 regularly at five program sites serving youth residing primarily in Vista and Oceanside, California. BGCV is open "when kids need us most" - after school, on most school holidays and during the summer. BGCV offers safe places just for kids where they can learn, grow, and succeed.

Club programs help Club members build healthy habits for life and how to be resilient leaders through mentorship, accountability while developing a growth mindset.

Club programs include:

  • Education: Career Launch, STEM, music and homework assistance and literacy practice
  • Health and Wellness: health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement and a Children’s Food Garden
  • Leadership and Service: leadership development opportunities for youth.
  • Sports and Recreation: comprehensive sports and recreational fitness programs.
