Sanctuary One Volunteer Opportunities

Sanctuary One

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

From weeding and walking to mucking and mopping, the daily to-do list at Sanctuary One is vast. We couldn’t get it all done without our team of dedicated volunteers, who embody the true spirit of community by saying "Yes I can."

In turn, by providing the opportunity to volunteer on a real working farm, the Sanctuary helps people of all ages experience nature’s power to heal. Working with animals and gardening has been widely shown to lower blood pressure, ease depression and stress, and help lonely people establish therapeutic relationships.

Volunteer shifts are 10 am to 2 pm, 7 days a week, and are scheduled in advance with our staff. Volunteers are expected to work at least 8 hours per month. We prefer that volunteers commit to at least one year of service. Due to our remote location, we highly recommend carpooling and packing a vegan or vegetarian lunch or snack. We applaud volunteering as a family or with a friend (a parent or guardian must accompany those under 18 years old)! Your volunteering mileage may be tax-deductible; talk to your financial advisor.

Sanctuary One volunteer jobs include:

  • Animal care which involves mucking stalls, keeping our cat and dog cottages clean, and socializing with the animals.
  • Garden work, we have two gardens on site where we grow food for Access food bank. We are always looking for volunteers in the garden helping with watering, weeding, plant care, harvesting, and transporting the vegetables to the local food bank
  • Tabling at local events throughout the year helping us reach new audiences.
  • Assisting with education. At Sanctuary One we host public tours, service learning groups, and field trips with local schools. We are always looking for volunteers that are interested in helping assist and lead groups.

For some of these jobs, you must be in good shape and not suffer from allergies to animals or hay. Because most of the work on the farm is physical in nature, Sanctuary One might not be the right match if you have lower back pain or other similar medical issues.

Become part of our volunteer farm family! Visit https://sanctuaryone.org/visit-volunteer/volunteer/ to fill out your application today! We'll email you back with all the necessary paperwork and the dates for our next volunteer orientation.

Mission Statement

Sanctuary One is a care farm where people, animals, and the earth work together for mutual healing.

Description

A care farm provides an ideal environment in which to learn and practice the art of care giving in a way that also transforms the caregiver. Care farming (also known as green care, farm care, or farming for health), is well established in Europe, but is a relatively new concept in the United States.
