Blue Butterfly provides support for families, children and teens ages 5-18 who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives. Volunteers will assist with leading and co leading groups of children that are split out by age brackets and family members. Volunteer applicants for this position will be pre screened as this is a very sensitive role. Experience working with children and/or a background in counseling/mental health are helpful. Volunteers will undergo fingerprinting and reference checks, and complete a 2 day comprehensive training via Tidewell Hospice as well as an online course from DCF.

Description

Tidewell is an independent, not-for-profit organization offering a home-based, total support system for patients and families dealing with a life-limiting illness, serving more than 1100 patients a day in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties. Volunteers are part of the Hospice Team that offers supportive medical, emotional, spiritual and volunteer services to patients and families who are facing difficulties at the end of life. Hospice volunteers are concerned individuals who willingly give of their time and talents to help Hospice families in many ways. They come from all walks of life, bonded by the mutual desire to serve the community.

  • Twice per month at 4 hours each session. Evenings, approximately 4-8 PM on week nights. One year commitment.
  • College Students, Current, former or retired Social Workers, Counselors, Mental Health Professionals, Teachers are ideal candidates.
