ORGANIZATION: RESULTS

  • 1 person is interested

If you have directly experienced poverty and oppression, raise your voice as an advocate and have a say in the policies that could impact your life.

Most elected officials have never experienced poverty firsthand
, which means policy debates about poverty rarely include the voices of those who have experienced it. You can help change that. The voices and experiences of people who have been directly impacted by poverty here in the U.S. and across the world need to be driving the conversations about poverty, equity, and justice.

  • Have you ever worried about your ability to keep a roof over your head or food on the table?
  • Have you experienced poverty firsthand either growing up in a lower-income country or not having access to basic human rights here in the U.S.?
  • Do you have family living in another country who are prevented from accessing basic health care or educational opportunities?
  • Are you frustrated as you watch your friends, neighbors, and loved ones navigate systems & communities that disadvantage them?

At RESULTS, we know that the everyday violence and injustice of poverty, racism, colonialism, systemic oppression, and inequality are rooted in public policy. What discriminatory policies have created, equitable and just policies can help change - but only when we stand up for them.

As a RESULTS Advocate, you can:

  • Develop relationships with your members of Congress so that when you get in touch, they listen
  • Meet face-to-face with your members of Congress and their staff to share your personal experience and expertise
  • Write persuasive opinion pieces and get published in the media
  • Be part of a movement of people committed to ending the systemic and structural injustices that drive poverty

RESULTS volunteers are effective advocates for solutions to poverty.

By raising our voices together across the country, RESULTS advocates are pushing Congress to make progress on both US and global poverty & inequality issues like:

  • Securing safe, affordable housing for everyone in the United States
  • Closing the racial wealth divide
  • Making sure everyone, everywhere has access to lifesaving vaccines
  • Ending childhood malnutrition
  • Tackling some of the world’s biggest killers, like HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis

No advocacy experience? No problem.

RESULTS provides issue and skills training to all volunteers plus all the tools you need to confidently take action. In addition to staff training & support, new advocates will join a local group in your community with experienced advocates who are eager to support you to learn and grow.

A typical RESULTS volunteer spends 3-6 hours of their time each month taking action with RESULTS.

We’ve been doing this for 40 years, and we know that voting is only one part of creating systemic change. We must continue to hold decision makers accountable and demand that change happens.

What are you waiting for? Start influencing the policies that impact you and the lives of millions of people around the world. Become a RESULTS advocate.

About RESULTS

Location:

1101 15th Street NW, Suite 1200, Washington, DC 20005, US

Mission Statement

RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together they use their voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty. Volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. In time, volunteers learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity. With every hour of their time, volunteers multiply their impact through the enormous power of advocacy -- whether it’s helping change policy to support millions of families putting food on the table or helping raise billions of dollars for the world’s most vulnerable children. Backed by the in-depth research and legislative expertise of staff, RESULTS advocates realize the incredible power they possess to use their voices to change the world.

Description

For over 40 years, RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund have been shining light on critical, effective solutions to poverty. By combining the powerful voices of civic advocates with research and oversight of U.S. anti-poverty efforts at home and abroad, RESULTS has been changing government priorities and people’s lives.

"I saw RESULTS on VolunteerMatch, but I wasn’t sure what advocacy was. Before that, I wasn’t really aware of the way different government policies impacted me. But RESULTS gave me a whole new perspective. I learned that if you want change, first you need to see what members of Congress are doing and build connections." - Yaseer Khanani

"I became an advocate because I wanted to be more involved in an organization that strives to make positive change. I really appreciate how genuine and dedicated everyone is to the RESULTS mission." - Sunjay Menon

"At RESULTS, we advocate for the issues that are close to my heart, like global health, education, and poverty eradication. I get to talk about issues that I witness throughout my professional and personal life. I can effect change by raising my voice." - Shabina Hussein
