We are looking for a creative and patient coach to help us strengthen our competitive step program serving girls ages 8 to 18 from September, 2020 to June, 2021. Candidates MUST have step team experience, either as a stepper or coach. We have one coach working with the seniors. We are now looking for an assistant for the senior team and two coaches for the junior team (which has not been developed yet).

Due to the pandemic, we have been operating virtually all summer. Depending on what happens with schools in NYC, we may return to in-person practices in September. We are living under three scenarios -

1. Outdoor practices every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm (at a Midtown Manhattan location.) Outdoor practices will likely continue until the weather falls below 60 degrees; Coaches are not comfortable coaching outdoors at this time are welcomed to start off virtually.

2. Indoor practices every Saturday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at the Pearl Studios in the Penn Station area of Manhattan (8th Ave/West 35th). (*Pearl has not yet reopened their space for groups such as ours and it is unlikely that they will do so in September).

3. Virtual/Zoom practices every Saturday from 11:30am to 12:30pm. This schedule will remain in effect in case of a future "shut-down" or inclement weather throughout the season which would otherwise prevent us from being outdoors or at Pearl. The Junior Team will need to set a virtual practice time.

Additionally, every team has an extra "virtual practice" that will continue throughout the season for the purpose of reviewing and skills building. We will work with the coaches to determine that schedule.

The girls are generally beginners - with about 10% of each team's members having some form of dance experience. They love a challenge and we find that they rise to the occasion. The teams will be trained to perform and compete on local and national stages. In this pandemic season, there is a possibility to engage them in online competitions where one girl represents all of her sisters in battle.

Your responsibility would be to choreograph original routines and teach the girls. In a virtual state, you would videotape yourself breaking down the choreography and we would upload it to their private online Zoom page for them to learn on their own. On the day of scheduled practices, the girls would log on and you can watch them do the choreography - offering critiques as they dance. We have found this to be very successful over the summer while we were 100% virtual.

Interested candidates should respond letting us know about their dance experience and any burning questions that they have. We will respond immediately. Thank you for your interest and please stay safe and sane.
