We are building a virtual library of solutions for people living in extreme poverty all over the world. Right now we have volunteers finding low and no-cost, sustainable, proven appropriate solutions and designing them so they are usable for a population who might not understand English (think IKEA style instructions).

There is a website, and a Facebook Page (though nobody monitors it) but there is no consistent content posting, and we don't have an Instagram account, Twitter account or a YouTube channel! (I know, I blush even admitting this, right?) Z

I simply don't have the time and energy and yet, as the organization grows, all this needs to be up and running Even now the volunteers are asking if there is a way for them to connect and compare experiences.

This is an opportunity for you to use your skills in social media to be a force for good. If you are able to help with this, not just the setting up of the accounts but also helping me to create a system that allows me to seamlessly post on all channels (or be able to hand this over to somebody who can simply handle the day to day on this) I would love to talk with you!

Mission Statement

The 5th Village is building an online library with solutions for people living in extreme poverty (under $2 a day). We aggregate existing, proven, low or no cost, sustainable solutions which then are curated to individual apps which will be regionally and culturally appropriate.

Description

Between the ages of 6 and 10, I lived in rural India where my father ran a factory. Once a year the factory would give a bookcase to 5 villages in our district. The bookcase came filled with publications from the Indian government on rural development, from good agricultural advice to health care information. My father used to say that 2 years later one of those 5 villages had made astonishing progress due to this gift.
The new bookcase is now an app on the cellphone, so lets duplicate this model and exponentially grow thriving 5th villages!
