Title: Seeking Volunteer Tutors for grade school special ed. kids

About the organization:

Learning Strategies Prep LSP is a 501c nonprofit organization, providing special education services to students.

I am seeking an experienced, creative, and qualified tutor for LSP’s On-Line Private Tutoring Services/sessions with kids

About Job/Job Description:

Location: on-line via Zoom, virtual classroom

Commitment: through the school year, 10 months about

Grades: these two kids are in 2nd and 6th grades

Volunteer tutors are assigned 1-2 students to work with for the school year. LSP matches up a tutor (tutor’s experience, preferences, and more) with a student(s) who they can help. Tutors meet with their student(s) 2 days per week for 1 hour each day.

For a 1 hour tutoring session you would get to help a student in a subject they need help the most with, such as Math, English, Test Taking Skills. Tutors will be given school assignments or homework 2 days in advance from parent, so tutors can see what students are working on for that week and prepare.

You may also prepare and provide your own practice sheets for your student to work on.

*LSP Program Director (Josh) meets with Volunteer Tutor 1 day a week for Check Ins, to get feedback.

*Please be mindful that we work with special ed. students, so they require a lot of visuals, examples, Motivation, and patience.

*Engage your student(s) with active and fun hands-on learning activities!

*A degree or work experience in your subject area, Math, English, Test Taking Skills...

*Hiring paper work and process: interview, volunteer job application, 1 reference

*Some experience working with young kids

*Tutoring or teaching experience

Trainings: There are trainings and learning opportunities

Timing/days: 2 days a week and 1 hour per student

Mission Statement

LEARNING STRATEGIES PREP LSP, Inc. © is a nonprofit 501c organization based in New York City. We provide special education services to students. Services are open to all students, but especially benefit at-risk students, those with mental health disorders, and students with IEPs. An IEP is an individual education plan for students who have ADHD and other learning disabilities. We offer programs to help improve these students' grades in school and build up their self esteem and confidence as learners. Programs include Woodworking, Soccer, and Cooking, and more; and we integrate learning strategies and group mentoring into all LSP programs.

Volunteers get to teach a class and do fun activities with kids. Programs/classes are small, so you get to see kids grow and develop as you help them with their learning strategies and life skills. I have been a volunteer myself, so I know what it is like to teach kids, and see how excited they get when you can inspire them to do anything! This is the experience you get when working with LSP.
