About GIVING GARDENS INC

Mission Statement

The Mission of Our Giving Garden is to interrupt hunger, cultivate greenspaces, educate on sustainable and environmentally sound gardening and skills and build community in Mableton and surrounding neighborhoods.

Description

The Giving Garden was started in the end of 2016. The good folks at Vinings Lake Church own the land and offered it up to be used by the community. The Garden started with a few rows of plants and a few raised beds and we donated 526 pounds of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables to Cobb County Families in need in our first year. In addition, we provide regular classes on various sustainable practices such as beekeeping, container gardening, beer brewing and mushroom growing. We have green space that is open to the public for you to enjoy including picnic tables, benches, art in the garden, kids play areas and more. We have events during the year including our Annual fundraiser BBQ, Blooms and Brews. In 2018, the garden was awarded an Atlanta Local Food Initiative Grant for 11 fruit trees. We were featured in Smyrna's Our Town Magazine in 2018 for their "love your neighbor" article. We are now a 501c3 nonprofit and have big plans! Our goal is to lengthen the walking trail, expand our chicken run and increase our flock to donate more eggs, increase ornamental plants in the garden for aesthetics, expand on kids play area, continue work on rainwater capture for garden and chickens and more. We are working to use part of the garden to temporarily house families in need. This is our Garden... your Garden!
