Help enhance the lives of our students by becoming a Virtual Volunteer Teacher. Teach English to non-English speaking adults. We provide training and materials. Here are a few details about our program:

Our Fall Semester will begin Monday,September 13 th. Our Fall program is scheduled to be both virtual and in-person. Currently we are facilitating all New Volunteer Orientations virtually, via Zoom.

Here are a few details about our program:

  1. Classes sizes are small (approximately 10 students or less)
  2. Volunteer Teachers are asked to commit at least 2 hours / week
  3. We offer classes during times to accommodate any schedule: Monday - Thursday, 9am | 12:30pm | 7pm
  4. The classes are 2 hours in length (virtual and in-person)
  5. We assign one (1) teacher per class, but can make accommodations for volunteer teachers who wish to have a co-teacher
  6. We use the same curriculum for virtual and in-person learning. Materials are provided. We do ask volunteers for a suggested donation of $70 to assist with the cost of guides, workbooks and other materials.
  7. Training is provided. We ask volunteers be computer literate, not an expert, but familiar with the basics.

The mission of Literacy Achieves is to equip non-English speaking adults and their young children with English literacy and life skills to promote self-sufficiency and the overall well-being of our students, their families and the greater community.

Description

At Literacy Achieves, more than 300 compassionate and committed volunteer teachers teach all the ESL classes, giving close to 1,100 students much needed support and encouragement, while developing mutual respect and understanding for one another through a common purpose of learning English.

We understand the difficulty many non-native English speakers have in finding the time, transportation, childcare or money they need in order to attend English language classes. Our programs are effective because we remove these barriers by providing:

  • Access to Quality Early Childhood Programs
  • Classes Free of Charge, yet Accountability Driven
  • A Structured Program Approach with Multiple Levels Offered Through Daily Classes
