29 Acres is a non-profit organization providing support services & independent living opportunities to adults with autism in Denton and Collin County. Employment is not only a source of income, but it provides a sense of purpose and engagement. The greatest barrier to employment, however, is getting to their job. Most adults with autism do not drive and there are few, affordable and reliable transportation options in North Texas. The cost of getting to work can be very high using options like Uber and Lyft. In conjunction with working with our local, state and federal authorities to broaden services, we are launching a volunteer driving team to help with this immediate need.

What does the volunteer driver job description look like?

• The basic job is to provide a ride to work for someone in need.
• The typical time commitment would be 30 minutes to 1 hour (round trip) or however long it takes to get someone to work or get them home from work. Jobs are in Denton and Collin county.
• 29 Acres will provide the vehicle, gas and liability coverage.

What are the volunteer qualifications?

• Someone in good physical and mental health.
• Someone who enjoys interacting with others.
• Someone with a knowledge of Denton, Collin County and surrounding areas.
• Someone who has a driver’s license and has a proven safe driving record. Someone who likes to help others
  
  
  Our biggest need is weekdays between 3pm-8pm. You can choose just do one ride a week or more depending on your availability!
