Prepare Meals for Homeless and At Risk Youth Group

Save to Favorites

Brazilian Center for Cultural Exchange of Sacramento

  • 74 people are interested

We need help preparing meals for unsheltered homeless individuals and an at risk youth group. This would primarily involve coming to our kitchen located in midtown Sacramento to help do basic cooking tasks (preparing salads, making garlic bread, cutting fruits, prepping boxes for delivery and cleaning up after cooking is done (wipe down and disinfecting surfaces, washing dishes, sweeping and mopping).

No previous cooking experience necessary.

We also need help loading cars with boxed meals and delivering them to recipients. We will stage the meal prep work so that no more than a few people (observing physical distancing and wearing masks) will be in our kitchen (which is spacious and well ventilated) at one time.

In addition, our organization is always looking for volunteers to help with accounting, marketing, social media, grant-writing, and other administrative tasks. This type of work can be done remotely.

*Important information

Our greatest need for volunteers are:
Tuesdays 10:00am to 2:30pm (prep day)
Wednesdays 10:00am to 2:00pm (packing and distribution day)
We are looking for drivers who are interested in distributing meals on Wednesdays 10:45am

Thursday, Friday and Saturday shifts are more easy going. Please call for a more detailed schedule.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Brazilian Center for Cultural Exchange of Sacramento (Brazilian Center) is to serve and enrich Sacramento by fostering a thriving and inclusive multicultural community by sharing art, food, music, dance, and performing arts to create cultural awareness, peace, tolerance, and a better world. Due to the need for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Brazilian Center is unable to host the festivals and performances that are a staple of our community-building and arts programming. Instead, we are using our industrial kitchen and volunteers to provide food to Sacramentans experiencing increased food insecurity as a result of COVID-19. Specifically, we prepare and deliver hot, nutritious meals to unsheltered homeless individuals and low income seniors. In addition, we provide groceries to families having trouble making ends meet.
