MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

We are a community of highly skilled tech volunteers building a sector specific (software, tools, ecosystem) workforce development platform. We deliver social impact through the creation of Civic Tech software. We partner with community organizations and local government to address LAs most pressing regional issues. Hack for LA is a project of Code for America and is it's official Los Angeles chapter.


Overview:

We are looking for a qualified Digital Marketing & Communications Director to take the lead in developing successful, long-term marketing & communication strategies within Hack for LA. You should have in-depth marketing experience and a passion for digital technologies. Your work will directly influence all project teams to ensure consistency through all digital marketing channels (and some offline channels). The ideal candidate should also be able to provide forward-thinking ideas to build and maintain a strong organizational web presence. This position will work closely with the Executive leadership team to define overall strategy and goals.

COVID-19:

We have a variety of software projects that address social safety net issues, from Food Insecurity to Homelessness. Due to Covid-19, these services are more in demand than ever. Additionally, all our volunteers can receive workforce development services to prepare them to reenter the workforce and/or continue their professional development. Hack for LA provides a community that is supportive and effective at a time when many people feel unmoored.


Responsibilities:
  1. Build our digital marketing roadmap
  2. Strategize all digital marketing channels (e.g. website, blogs, emails and social media) to ensure brand consistency
  3. Determine appropriate metrics (ROI, KPIs and OKRs)
  4. Liaise with Product, Design and Opportunity Directors to increase org awareness through cohesive strategies
  5. Motivate digital marketing team to achieve goals
  6. Stay up-to-date with digital technology developments
  7. Advise budget recommendations
  8. Provide Mentoring and guidance to Marketing Managers and Coordinators

Qualifications:
  1. Proven experience in Marketing, Digital technologies or relevant field
  2. Demonstrable experience in designing successful digital marketing campaigns
  3. Strong understanding of how all current digital marketing channels function
  4. Solid knowledge of online marketing tools and best practices
  5. Experience with SEO/SEM, Google Analytics and CRM software
  6. Familiarity with web design
  7. Strong team management and communication (written and verbal) skills
  8. Interest in Mentoring and the the patience and enthusiasm required
  9. Comfortable working on Zoom, Slack and email.

You will find yourself in the company of all types of people, from the high school wizkid and PHDs to self taught high school dropouts, who have built and sold tech companies. REQUIREMENTS

  • This role on average will require 20 hours per month. Since this position is responsible for creating HfLA's marketing strategy from the ground up, the beginning will require more initial time commitment with a reduction as the systems are setup.
  • This position will be working closely with Hack for LA's Executive Director who is located in the PDT time zone and is available for scheduled zoom meetings from 8am-5pm M-F, 8-9am Saturdays, 8-10 Sundays.
