CONTACT of Mercer County, NJ offers emotional support to people in crisis or considering suicide to help increase their sense of well-being and desire to live. Utilizing crisis intervention and suicide prevention strategies, trained non-judgmental counselors help people feel safe, cared for, and listened to through focused telephone, chat, and text.

But we need more volunteers!

Join the FREE training classes and learn how YOU can make a positive difference in the lives of others! The 10-week training course teaches:

  • Strategies to help save lives.

  • Active listening skills.

  • Awareness of mental health issues.

  • About local community resources.

Upon successful completion of the course, trained counselors will be qualified to respond to the national 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

You can choose from one of two training class modules that will be held on different weeknights. CONTACT’S training will be held via Zoom on Tuesday evenings, starting September 12th, 2023, from 7 pm - 9:30 pm, lasting until December 5th, 2023. Or you may attend Wednesday evening classes, beginning September 13th, 2023, from 7 pm - 9: 30 pm, lasting until December 6th, 2023. You may only select one of the two weeknight course modules being offered. The training is available to community adults and high school graduates 18 years or older.

Description

CONTACT of Mercer County is a family of programs which focus volunteer action to deal with community needs. A crisis intervention HOTLINE is staffed exclusively by trained volunteers. The Telephone Reassurance Program utilizes volunteers to make daily or as scheduled "check-in" calls to seniors or shut in adults. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) helps mature volunteers - 55 plus - locate and remain in community service activities focused on a host of community needs.
