Assistant Coach- NJ Hip Hop Majorette Dance Team

We are looking for a creative and patient coach to assist with either our NJ Junior (ages 8 to 12) or Senior (ages 13 to 18) Hip-Hop Majorette Dance Team from September, 2020 to June, 2021.

Due to the pandemic, we have been operating virtually all summer. Depending on what happens with schools in NYC, we may return to in-person practices in September. We currently operate under three scenarios.

1. We have been having outdoor practices every Saturday from 11:30am to 1pm (at Rahway Train Plaza or other Rahway location to be announced.) Outdoor practices will likely continue until the weather falls below 60 degrees; Coaches who are not comfortable working outdoors are welcomed to coach solely online for now.

2. Indoor practices every Saturday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Rahway YMCA in the Downtown Area of Rahway - about three short blocks from Rahway's NJ Transit Railroad Station (Irving Street/Central Avenue). (*The YMCA has not yet reopened their space for groups such as ours and it is unlikely that they will do so in September).

3. Virtual/Zoom practices every Saturday from 10:00am to 11:00am. This schedule will remain in effect in case of a future "shut-down" or inclement weather throughout the season which would otherwise prevent us from being outdoors or at the YMCA.

Additionally, every team has an extra "virtual practice" that will continue throughout the season for the purpose of reviewing and skills building. We will work with the incoming coaches to set a time for this practice.

Currently, our Junior and Senior Majorette teams are very small - therefore both teams practice together at this time. Each team has one very strong coach; we just welcomed another strong coach and we are looking for one additional coach to join them. Once each team gets to 10 girls, they will split into separate rooms (but will continue to function at the same time).

The girls are generally beginners - with about 10% of each team's members having some form of dance experience. They love a challenge and we find that they rise to the occasion. The teams will be trained to perform and compete on local and national stages. In this pandemic season, there is a possibility to engage them in online competitions where one girl represents all of her sisters in battle.

Your responsibility would be to choreograph original routines and teach the girls. In a virtual state, you would videotape yourself breaking down the choreography and we would upload it to their private online Zoom page for them to learn on their own. On the day of scheduled practices, the girls would log on and you can watch them do the choreography - offering critiques as they dance. We have found this to be very successful over the summer while we were 100% virtual.
