Heartland Hospice in Tucson and Green Valley is looking for crafters to make and donate activity mats for our patients. Activity mats are comfort items for patients with dementia and Alzheimer's disease, as they can provide or relief from feeling of anxiety, stress and restlessness. Heartland Hospice is a nonprofit hospice provider. Activity mats are rectangular cloth mats that can be placed in the laps of patients. They consist of different materials, textures, images and patterns. I have attached a photo just for a sample. Add on items are sewn onto the mat to engage and soothe patients who are in constant movement. Frequently uses items sewn onto the mat are zippers, ties, stuffed animal, Velcro and pockets. There are samples of activity mats on Pinterest and also if you google activity mats for Alzheimer's patients to give you ideas.

Our patients are in assisted living homes and also in their own home or family members home.

Description

Heartland Hospice is an organization made up of a dedicated team of Nurses, Home Health Aides, Spiritual Coordinators, Social Workers, Bereavement support, Medical Directors, office staff, and volunteers that desire to give a full circle of care to patients with advanced stage illnesses.

Volunteers are the most important component in helping the staff give a full circle of care to our clients. They can visit clients in their home or facility, give caregiver relief, make crafts and gifts items for the clients, office support, and much more...

Without volunteers our clients would lack in receiving the love and care they need during their most difficult journey.
