We’re a 10 year old independent Caribbean performing arts company in NYC with our 501(c)(3) status, looking for a dynamic arts activist to join our board. We are seeking a business professional with board experience to become our Board Chair, after the retirement of our last chair. We currently have a board of 5 people - we have 4 officers (Chair, Vice Chair Secretary and Treasurer) and one Director At Large. We're particularly interested in expanding the diversity of our board and are actively seeking candidates who are from one or more of the following communities: BIPOC, LGTBQIA+, person with a disability.

Our name "Braata" is a Jamaican colloquial term meaning 'more,’ which is what this company aspires to do -- give its supporters and audiences something more at all times. Started by actor/singer Andrew Clarke in May 2009, the goal for Braata has always been to provide entertainment and education to our patrons and give voice to diverse experiences, performers, writers and directors. We aim to authentically represent the culture of the Caribbean islands and to prioritize cultivating and re-telling Caribbean stories and legends for generations to come.

Being a member of our board, you will be part of an exciting time in our history where we're actively taking our company to the next level. We have strong support from our community and excellent organization with small staff compliment and dedicated volunteers. The right candidate will be full of passion and desire to be part of an arts organization that makes a difference. This is a two year term, and candidate must be NYC local and be able to physically attend board meetings and events (though, currently, we're meeting remotely due to COVID-19.)

Check us out online at www.braataproductions.org and on social media @braataproductions.

Thank you so much for your interest. We look forward to hearing from you!
