The American Red Cross has a special need for volunteers to support sheltering efforts during natural disasters.
Because of COVID-19, the Red Cross is placing those needing a safe place to stay in emergency hotel lodging when possible. If hotel stays aren’t possible, then the Red Cross will open traditional shelters. When opening these shelters, we will likely have a larger number in order to comply with social distancing which will limit the capacity per shelter. This means a higher need for volunteers.
To help keep people safe, we have put in place additional precautions and developed special training for our workforce. Stepping up to volunteer in a shelter is a easy way to give back to your community.
The different roles would include vital tasks such as to help staff shelter reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information collection and other vital tasks to help those we serve. We have both associate and supervisory level opportunities available.
To sign up to volunteer, go to www.redcross.org/volunteertoday and look for the position with the word SHELTER in it.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please reach out to Danielle Rudolph at danielle.rudolph@redcross.org.
