Provide free tax preparation and give hardworking Oregonians access to the Earned Income Tax Credit. Maximize the nation's largest anti-poverty program by becoming a Tax prep volunteer. The average refund of families claiming the EITC is $1,245 up to over $6,000. Yet over $137 million is left unclaimed in Oregon, ranking 47th in the nation. You can help us change that!

Struggling Oregonians cannot afford to spend hundreds of dollars on tax preparation. Offer an alternative in your community. On average, each volunteer places $48,000 into the hands of seniors and Oregonians living on poverty’s edge annually.

Make a real impact in people's lives helping your neighbors and surrounding communities.

We provide free virtual comprehensive training between October and January for volunteer tax preparers - no experience needed.
Enjoy flexible hours during tax season (4 hours/week between February 1 and April 15).
MFS-CASH Oregon provides secure software and equipment to ensure our clients sensitive information is safe and secure at all times. After completing certification, our volunteers must be able to pick up hardware from our Portland office.

Metropolitan Family Service helps people move beyond the limitations of poverty, inequality and social isolation. We serve children, families and older adults in the tri-county area. MFS is dedicated to building stronger communities by providing services, connecting people with resources, and offering meaningful and rewarding volunteer opportunities.

Description

Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) volunteers serve in various capacities, depending on their areas of interest and abilities. Volunteers participate in on-going opportunities in one of three focus areas: helping children succeed, strengthening families and their connections to the community, and helping older adults and persons with disabilities live independently.
