Minds Matter Detroit is a college prep program that helps low-income students get into their best fit college through SAT prep, mentoring, and summer enrichment programs.

This position is responsible for leading the summer enrichment programs part of Minds Matter. They will work with the students and mentors to ensure all students apply and get accepted into a summer program. All of the material and summer program partnerships are established, so this position will be responsible for:

  • Implement process by which students identify and apply to summer programs
  • Maintains a support team of individuals with specific skill sets to assist mentors and mentees in the identification of and application to summer programs
  • Provides mentor teams a summer program handbook detailing the processes and various deadlines required to identify and apply to programs and scholarships
    • All this material is already created
  • Maintains relationship with core summer programs database and seeks out additional summer programs for student consideration
  • Maintains detailed database of past summer programs attended courses studied
  • Develops and tracks summer programs budget and provides VP of Finance a quarterly update
  • Work with other chapters to help place students into summer programs

Description

Minds Matter brings bright and motivated high school students together with dedicated mentors to help them achieve academic excellence, expand educational horizons and ultimately gain acceptance to college. This is accomplished in a 3-year program that includes 32 Saturday sessions (half academic and half mentoring) per year and 2 Summer program.

There are three program components that differentiate Minds Matter from other organizations: academic instruction, individualized mentoring support, and summer enrichment programs.
