Healthy Cities Tutoring helps kids who struggle to succeed in school. Community volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring and mentoring for children to improve their academic performance, engagement in learning and self-esteem.

Healthy Cities Tutoring began in 1996 as a dream of school and community leaders seeking to support children and families in San Carlos. This intergenerational program was piloted at one elementary school in early 1997 and quickly expanded to provide support to struggling students in the San Carlos School District.

Health Cities Tutoring is committed to ensuring every child has the support necessary to achieve to their full potential; we know that their achievement creates a healthy, safe and thriving community.

Healthy Cities Tutoring (HCT) is entering its 21st year of supporting children who struggle to succeed in school.

Volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring and mentoring for a child who is struggling in school to help them improve their academic performance, engagement in learning, and self-esteem.

Volunteers are matched with a child to work one-on-one for 45 minutes a week at the student's school or local library. Tutoring sessions are scheduled at the volunteer's convenience.

Qualification/Skills Needed: No prior experience required. Just a desire to help a child. Adult volunteers will be fingerprinted, may be required to have a TB test and must pass a background check.

Time Commitment: 45 minutes per week during entire school year.

Volunteer Orientation and training sessions offered 5 times per year.
