VAI’s Youth Program provides year-round programming for culturally diverse youth, ages 5-15. We offer academic support, mentoring, and enriching experiences that foster personal growth and confidence. We seek enthusiastic, encouraging, and committed volunteers for our remote program September 8th-December 18th. All volunteers must attend orientation on September 1st.
We are looking for volunteers in the following areas:
Position Details:
Media and Development Volunteer: We seek someone who has experience conducting successful social media and community outreach. As the Media and Development volunteer, you will:
- Create engaging content for VAI Youth Program’s social media, newsletter, and website.
- Support planning and executing fundraisers and youth/family engagement events.
- Contribute to building and stewarding relationships with VAI families and community partners.
Art Lead: We seek someone who has a knowledge of and passion for teaching multiple forms of creative arts, such as theater, dance, music, drawing, language arts, etc. As the Art Lead, you will:
- Engage youth with energetic and interesting activities.
- Foster students’ creative and critical thinking by exploring various forms of art.
- Nurture students’ interest in the arts.
Fitness Lead: We seek someone who enjoys and has an educational background and/or substantial experience in nutrition and fitness. As the Fitness Lead, you will:
- Teach students about the importance of nutrition, exercise, and self-care.
- Lead fun and informative fitness activities.
- Motivate youth to practice healthy habits.
Vietnamese Interpreter/Translator: We seek someone who is proficient in Vietnamese who can conduct conversations and translate written correspondence. As the Vietnamese Interpreter, you will coordinate with program staff, students and their families to ensure clarity of communication
Spanish Interpreter/Translator: We seek someone who is proficient in Spanish who can conduct conversations and translate written correspondence. As the Spanish Interpreter, you will coordinate with program staff, students and their families to ensure clarity of communication.
Through this experience, you will have the opportunity to:
- Gain cultural competence by working with youth from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- Strengthen interpersonal, leadership and problem-solving skills through nonprofit work
- Contribute in a meaningful way by working with youth and their families

Description
VAI serves refugees and immigrants of any and all ethnicity. We are located in Uptown, an incredibly diverse region of the city. We offer a plethora of resources and services to our community. These include:
- Adult Education Classes (ESL/EL Civics/Citizenship/Computers)
- After school and Summer Youth program
- Homemaker care for the elderly
- Employment obtainment and training
- Citizenship obtainment counseling
- Refugee and immigrant rights advocacy and assistance
- Translation services (Vietnamese, Chinese, and Arabic)

- Orientation or Training
- Remote programming will occur 1.5 hour per day, five days a week, for 15 weeks via Zoom. Duration of the position is subject to change.
- Volunteers must be at least 18 y/o. Orientation for volunteers will take place on September 1st 10a-1p (Central Time)
