Volunteer tenant improvement architect needed for Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION: Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity (THHFH) in Eastern Jackson County, MO is seeking the commitment of a professional volunteer or firm qualified to provide architectural design services for a retail tenant finish improvement. This position is ideal for a professional architect that shares Habitat for Humanity’s passion for helping lower income households and neighborhoods to achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through homeownership and that values the role that Habitat for Humanity ReStores play in achieving its vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Every volunteer helps Habitat build homes, communities, and hope.

Habitat ReStores serve our mission in two ways. First, ReStores sell surplus and gently used furniture, appliances, and building materials to the public at a fraction of the retail price, making home improvement affordable for lower income families, landlords and the community at large. And because our inventory is donated by local businesses, contractors and residents as a means of recycling, ReStores also support environmental sustainability be diverting useful items from the landfill. Every ReStore donation helps to build stronger communities.

Secondly, the net proceeds from the operation of Habitat ReStores provide a significant and flexible source of funding to support Habitat’s primary mission of building affordable home ownership opportunities for working families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing. In this way, Habitat for Habitat has found a viable and long-lasting solution for achieving organizational self-sufficiency and has reduced its reliance on public funds and competitive grant dollars. Every ReStore purchase helps to create the opportunity for a better life for the families we serve.

SCOPE OF PROJECT:

THHFH is currently vetting locations for a new Habitat ReStore in Eastern Jackson County. PROJECT PERIOD:

1-3 months depending on volunteer availability.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE:

Minimum three years of professional experience as a licensed architect or structural engineer, preferably including design of retail tenant finish, including some inventory warehousing, parking lot design, and loading dock improvements.
