CALLING ALL HEROES
I would like to bring to your attention that we are starting to take action for the 2022-2023 school year! We are in need of 45 volunteers for the upcoming school year to be a pen pal mentor!
Who we are:
Freedom City, Inc is a nonprofit organization that seeks to remove barriers and provide supports for students and families in Oklahoma City to reach their potential. Our Freedom Mentoring program provides at-risk students with a loving and caring mentor. These students have been faced with a variety of adverse childhood experiences leaving them to face difficult emotions that impact their potential to succeed in certain areas. Freedom City Inc. has a vision to provide a hope informed mentor for these students- a mentor that will meet with them weekly to allow them to discuss any issues at hand, connect them to any resources they may need, and to help them build their potential and hope for a better tomorrow.
How to become a pen pal:
1. Sign up at : Freedomcityokc.galaxydigital.com Or Text "HERO" to 405.322.5660
2. Once you sign up, fill out the required paperwork
3. Our Freedom Mentoring Coordinator will then be in contact with you about details.
What would my responsibilities be as a pen pal?
Once our Freedom Mentoring Coordinator is in contact with you, she will invite you to a brief training for how our pen pal system works (both virtual and in person options will be available). You will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire to best match you to a mentee. We have two mentoring opportunities available next school year. The first being a virtual pen-pal method, where you can send letters back and forth with your paired mentee. The second option is to volunteer in person at one of the OKC schools we partner with during the student's lunch hour! Once you choose which option works best for you, you will then receive your materials!
