Now, more than ever, Pierce County residents are struggling to make ends meet. Be a part of the response to the recent economic downturn by becoming a CRCC Client Services volunteer! This opportunity allows volunteers or interns to work one on one with clients remotely to strategize creative solutions to difficult situations by providing resources and referrals. This position is temporarily virtual , and we are seeking volunteers local to the Tacoma area in the case we return to the office.

Purpose of Position

The Community Resource Connection Center (CRCC) is a program of Associated Ministries that supports struggling households in overcoming small barriers to prevent homelessness, and provides basic stability to those experiencing homelessness. Some of the services the CRCC offers includes rental assistance for those impacted by COVID-19, auto-related expenses, work-related expenses, and support in obtaining IDs, drivers licenses, birth certificates, eye glasses, medications, and so on. With guidance from our full-time Resource and Referral Specialist Team Lead, the CRCC Client Services Intern will meet with clients to assess their needs and provide appropriate resources and referrals. We are looking for a volunteer or intern who has experience in social and human services, and who can commit to a minimum of 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete client intakes to assess needs
  • Provide appropriate referrals to other services
  • Assist clients with obtaining needed documents such as identification cards, birth certificates, and filling out applications for social security cards
  • Advocate and/or make necessary calls on behalf of clients seeking assistance to streamline resources and referrals.
  • Create client files with detailed case notes
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience in social and human services, working with low-income individuals and those with significant barriers to employment
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting an anti-racist, equity-driven culture
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about community resources
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (primarily Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • Functional home work station (i.e. personal computer and phone)
  • Availability during the week within office hours 9am-5pm
