The American Red Cross has an urgent need for shelter workers. During wildfire season in Northern California, this need is critical now more than ever.
When a fire or other disaster threatens homes, the Red Cross sets up shelters to ensure our community members have a safe place to stay. Shelter workers support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include assisting with reception & registration, ensuring meals are set up, helping with dormitory needs, disseminating information, and providing comfort when it is needed most.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent client service and support day-to-day activities at the direction of the assigned Shelter Supervisor
- Follow all necessary safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (masks) and ensuring social distancing
Time commitment:
- Ability to work in a Red Cross shelter for at least 5 consecutive days during Wildfire season (June-November). During these 5 days, shifts will be 12 hours long (both daytime or evening shifts available)
- Complete required virtual self-paced training (4 hours of training total)
Must be 18+. Register today at www.redcross.org/volunteer
