Support the American Red Cross as we prepare for Hurricane and Fire seasons this fall by joining Disaster Services. As a member of the Ready Team you will be trained to staff and operate in a Red Cross Shelter if assigned to a disaster this fall.
With an above-average hurricane season predicted, and COVID-19 travel restrictions in place nationwide, the Red Cross is looking for more local volunteers to meet the need.
o Volunteers are especially needed in Sheltering (Supervisor and Service Associate positions).
§ The Red Cross will be placing those needing a safe place to stay in emergency hotel lodging whenever possible.
· If hotel stays are not possible, the Red Cross is prepared to open a traditional shelter following CDC guidelines to protect residents against the threat of COVID-19
§ Responsibilities may include work in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory and information collection.
§ Potential volunteers must be ready for the physical demands that working in a shelter bring, including the need to stand or sit for two-hour periods, walk for two miles in a shift or work outdoors in inclement weather
§ Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age
-Full training is provided.
