With a strong track record of results, SOSA uses innovative approaches to make educational and social impact through STEM and volunteerism.

Development Director: This is a volunteer opportunity

The Organization

A 501(c)3 founded in 2011 with headquarters in Florida and members in >10 countries, SOSA executes programming for:

  • Elementary & middle school student recruitment into STEM
  • High school student recruitment into STEM
  • Undergraduate student experiential learning, research performance, career development
  • Community outreach

Job Description

The role is a remote position centered around our work in the USA and the Caribbean. Planned start date will be between Sep 1 - Oct 1. Main job responsibilities:

  • Develop fundraising plan for each unique program
  • Actively develop and execute fundraising campaign
  • Actively prospect, engage and steward donors
  • Identify and correspond with corporate sponsors
  • Liaise with PR team to ensure publicity of impact to organization and sponsors
  • Consult with Executive Director and PR team on marketing campaigns
  • Monitor organizational trends, insights, and outcomes to create fundraising approaches calendars

Volunteer Details

W ork will primarily be conducted independently from a remote location, reporting to SOSA’s Executive Director. The role will begin as a volunteer, unpaid position and transition to a stipend to be discussed, commensurate with performance and experience.

  • Position location: Remote
  • Approximate hours required per week: 5 - 8
  • Duration of the project: Ongoing

Desired Skills And Experience

We are seeking an individual with documented experience and a passion for fundraising, development strategies, and community service.

  • Highly self-motivated, and able to work productively and independently
  • Bachelors or Advanced degree in business, public/non-profit administration, marketing, communications, international development, social entrepreneurship or similar
  • Experienced with fundraising methods and platforms
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Experience with visual design processes and tools
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Team player
  • Strong ethical behavior
  • Results-oriented, and creative problem solver
  • Tech-Savvy, with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Comfortable working internationally/inter-culturally

SOSA is a team of working scientists and STEM education facilitators who are dedicated to promoting scientific advancement globally to fuel future development. Through hands on workshops and community outreach activities, we focus to improve STEM participation, science literacy, science performance and everyday decision making in the youth of underrepresented STEM populations. Our annual STEM conferences feature distinguished international speakers, and provide a platform to provide a stimulating environment where students and scientists can interact to plan their professional development, and discuss current areas of research and novel areas and technologies that are ripe for development.
