Turn your favorite craft or hobby into a meaningful moment for a seriously ill or dying patient. Hosparus Health Volunteer Services is seeking handmade goods to give to patients who are isolated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Examples of some of the many things that might bring comfort to a patient are quilted, crocheted or knitted lap blankets, handmade cards, walker totes, and stuffed bears or other comforting creatures. Patriotic themed crafts encourage veterans in our care. Spiritual support items affirm a patient's faith, such as prayer/meditation beads, handmade crosses, prayer shawls or artwork for a patient’s room.

A CareMaker is someone who supports Hosparus Health's mission of enhancing the quality of life for those impacted by serious illness with handmade goods. CareMakers provide their own materials and donate the finished product to Volunteer Services for a patient support volunteer or staff member to deliver to a patient's home. Hosparus Health provides care for seriously ill and dying patients wherever they call home including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center and patient and family member’s homes. Many of our patients in facilities can’t receive visitors due to COVID-19 precautions. A handmade good, made with love, can help provide a moment of care to someone.

If you have an idea for a crafted or handmade good you'd like to contribute, let us know and we'll give you some guidelines for an ideal finished product. Contributions must be clean, in new condition and from a non-smoking environment, with no perfumes or other scents of any kind. Please use caution if you have pets - materials and finished goods must be free from pet hair and smells. We won't be able to use items that don't meet these criteria.

There is no minimum or maximum contribution, and this project is ideal for craft and sewing groups who are working individually. Reach out to us beforehand to be sure it is something that will be put to good use. Finished goods are dropped off to our office building by advanced arrangement only.
