Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles is looking for volunteers who are interested / experienced / love to paint furniture. We also recover chairs and stuff pillows. These hand painted furniture pieces, stuffed pillows and recovered chairs will be part of our latest NZO - African Styles at Home and Abroad line being sold in our Oakland store. These workshops will be held at our historic Akwaaba Hall in East Oakland two Sunday's a month. We need volunteers for Sunday shifts 11 am to 3 pm. Training is included.
NZO is an African word that means home and and we are incorporating vibrant African designs into the furniture pieces that we sell at Uhuru Furniture. Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles is a non profit organization that strives to make African people economically self reliant.

Uhuru Furniture is an economic development institution of the non-profit organization, the African People’s Education and Defense Fund (APEDF.org). All proceeds raised above our operating expenses go to support programs defending the civil and human rights of the African community and bridging the grave disparities faced by the Black community in health, healthcare, economic development and education. Description
Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a non-profit store that is a fundraiser for black community empowerment programs of APEDF. We receive a truck load of donated furniture and household items every day. This is a lively, popular Grand Lake area store staffed mostly by volunteers. When you volunteer at Uhuru Furniture, you not only contribute to the success of the store, you become part of a larger movement for peace through social justice. People shop at Uhuru Furniture for low priced, top quality items and to support crucial programs for social justice for African people.
