We are looking for a creative and patient coach to work with our Mini Hip-Hop Majorette Dance Team named BabySoul (girls ages 5 to 7) until June, 2021. There are currently ten girls. The team is being trained to perform in shows and parades and will also be prepared for entry-level competitions.
Because of the change in weather, we are stopping our outdoor practices this month and need a coach who can conduct virtual practices for the team twice a week. The coach will need to set a day of the week, preferably at 4pm or 5pm for an hour long virtual practice AND should be available to practice online on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm.
Whenever we are allowed to return indoors (likely in January) - our indoor practices will be held every Saturday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at the Pearl Studios in the Penn Station area of Manhattan (8th Ave/West 35th). Coaches who are uncomfortable with in person practices can elect to coach online.
Your responsibility would be to choreograph original hip-hop routines and teach the girls and to work with other division coaches to prepare the company for competitions, parades and performances. You would videotape yourself breaking down the choreography and we would upload it to their private online Zoom page for them to learn on their own. On the day of scheduled practices, the girls would log on and you can watch them do the choreography - offering critiques as they dance.
We will consider a current high school senior or recent high school graduate. This opportunity is ideal for someone who needs community service credit. HIP-HOP DANCE EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Hip-Hop Majorette experience is a strong plus. Interested candidates should respond letting us know about their dance experience and any burning questions that they have. We will respond immediately. Friends of MJHS ("Friends") is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation organized for the purpose of generating contributions, pledges and funds for the development and ongoing support of Citadel Academy Prep School (CAPS), a school that will provide students in grades 6-8 with a high quality Christian education through a well balanced, yet challenging curriculum that ministers to the spirit, soul and body.
Friends will also provide funds, management and ongoing support of The SoulDeevas Performing Arts Company, a character building sports and arts program that will serve all youth regardless of their religious affiliation. The SoulDeevas will include programs that provide activities, resources and support during critical out-of-school time hours in a safe, nurturing environment that works from a strengths-based, youth development perspective.
