Volunteers are the heart of the hospice team. We depend on our volunteers to help us provide the extra love and care our clients and their families need at this time in their life. We recognize the special connection a veteran can offer another prior servicemember, and are actively looking for veteran volunteers to support our patients!

Volunteers offer support, companionship, and practical caring help to this special group of people. Whether it's running errands, staying with the patient so family members can take a break, reading to patients, holding a hand, making crafts, or even baking, the help and support our volunteers give is returned to them in countless ways.

Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, most care facilities have restricted access to medical professionals only. This means that many seniors in nursing homes aren't able to receive visits from their family members, and are at great risk of suffering from isolation and it's related health hazards. Heartland is working with these facilities to provide friendly volunteer visits either while maintaining social distance and PPE precautions, or remotely through phone calls, letters, and cards. Please help us in this effort!

Mission Statement

Heartland Hospice is a growing non-profit dedicated to providing high quality hospice services in Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties. We achieve this by recruiting professional, caring staff; encouraging patients to become active participants in care; and by creating an atmosphere of supportive leadership. We value strong, mutually beneficial relationships with referral sources, employees, patients and caregivers and the community at large.

Description

Hospice is a special kind of care designed to provide comfort, as well as spiritual and emotional support for people in the final phase of a terminal illness. Hospice focuses on enhancing a patient's quality of life, rather than length of life. It neither hastens nor postpones death; it affirms life and regards dying as a normal process. The hospice program stresses human values that go beyond the physical needs of the patient. Hospice ensures that patients spend their final days in dignity and comfort.
