The PATH (Program for Assistance in Transition from being Homeless) program provides outreach services to individuals who are homeless and unsheltered.
Each week PATH provides food and clothing to guests who are experiencing homelessness, through the personal care and clothing pantry, as well as, access to services provided by the CSB. Guests are able to come twice a week to do take showers, do their laundry, collect their mail, enjoy a meal, and replenish their supplies from the pantry.
The volunteer in this role will be working with guests from all walks of life, the majority of whom are considered part of the vulnerable population of Fairfax County, many of whom are in need of support related to homelessness, mental illness, and/or addiction.
Available volunteer shifts*:
- Tuesdays 11:30am-4:00pm
- Fridays 7:45am-12:00pm
*volunteers should sign-up for a shift at least one week in advance
The ideal candidate for this role:
- is proactive and able to take direction
- is able to commit to a 4-hour shift
- has the ability to interact with clients courteously and pleasantly while applying the pantry rules firmly, consistently, and diplomatically.
- has moderate physical stamina and strength: tasks may involve standing and walking about for periods of three to four hours; lifting, moving, and sorting through boxes and bags filled with donated clothing and other items, etc.
Responsibilities
- Greet guests and assist with receiving services, such as: shower supplies and sign-up; laundry sign-up/assistance; food distribution; meal service; other duties as assigned
- Sort through bags and boxes of donated items;
- Keep the pantry supplies and donations organized, clean, and tidy;
- Identify items suitable for further consignment, repair or cleaning;
- Assist clients and monitor/track their use of available items;
- Update inventory as needed

Description
When you join our volunteer team, you will receive training, supervision, diverse educational experiences, and opportunities for personal growth. Various positions are available throughout Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church. The times and days available are flexible and include some evening and weekend opportunities, as well as regular weekday hours. By providing direct service, administrative support, or participating in special projects, volunteers are valuable members of our team.
