Community Wellbeing San Diego - a young, California-registered nonprofit that aims to improve the wellbeing of underserved communities in San Diego - is looking for an experienced, volunteer grant writer who can help the nonprofit apply for grants that can support its efforts. Mission Statement
We improve the wellbeing of underserved communities in San Diego County by reducing health disparities and addressing the social determinants of health in the process. CWSD provides preventive health services, health literacy improvement services, health education and training, social services support, and social networking opportunities within the community that are designed to improve the lives of community members.
Description
Many diverse communities in San Diego County continue to face health disparities that in turn negatively affect their community well-being. Improving health outcomes remains one of the essential approaches to achieving community well-being.
To bring change to these communities, such as closing the health disparity gaps, a community-based organization whose services center on cultural responsiveness is needed. Community Wellbeing San Diego (CWSD), a non-profit organization, was created to address this need.
Effectively reducing disparities and inequities in health is challenging, as there are many contributing elements such as social, cultural, economic, and physical factors surrounding communities that are recognized as significant determinants of health.
The intricate, ecological association among individuals and their health requires a correspondingly multi-faceted approach. CWSD therefore addresses community health outcomes by using strategic, multidimensional approaches to understand, evaluate, and implement interventions such as health literacy improvement for targeted communities.
