Phone Reassurance Program

ORGANIZATION: FREED

As COVID-19 restrictions are easing around the country, many are returning to pre-pandemic activities. But there are still many people who are unable to do so, because of their greater risks due to age, disability, or health issues.

Most of us remember what it was like in the early days of COVID lockdown, being isolated at home. It was difficult, and lonely. That reality persists for many in our community. But it doesn't have to be that way - you can help, right from the comfort of your own home, anywhere in the United States! You can make a big difference with your kind and caring presence via phone, call one person each week (or several if you like to chat!), and check in with how they are doing. You'll get to know each other a bit, and maybe even make a new friend.

Contact FREED to volunteer for the Phone Reassurance Program. There are three weekday time slots for calling: 9-11am, 11am-1pm, and 1-3pm (Pacific time). Choose the time that best fits your schedule. There is an application process that requires a criminal background check and three positive character references. There is an orientation, and ongoing monthly trainings. Volunteers are required to track their hours weekly in an online form, this can be done from a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
